recycle and repurposing mom jeans

hiyall!

I have a great tutorial for you. I am a Pinerest addict. One day recently I came upon this link to recycling jeans into a garden apron. http://www.questionandplanter.com/2012/03/diy-how-do-you-turn-old-jeans-into-a-garden-apron/    there is a quick video to watch. you can make a apron in less than 30 mins and there is NO sewing involved! I made one this afternoon out of a pair of old jeans that I had and could not part with. warning....this post is picture heavy!

find a old pair of jeans, something really worn and softened up from many washings.
I chose these because the inseam was pretty worn out. one good fart and I would be exposing my clean under ware!

we will be using the back of the jeans for the main
apron. do not worry about a hole here or there. they can be covered with some cute applique. and yes ladies, my battbatt IS that BIG!!

Since I am a huge fan of recycling all parts of old clothing, I wanted to save the zipper for a denim coin purse. I loosened the stitching at the top of the zipper. remember do not to damaged the button hole or   metal button. this will be the closure for the back of apron. Since the are your old jeans, you know that the closure will fit properly!

starting with either side of the zipper, careful cut below the waist band and cut close to the seam. stop when you get to the side seam.

once you do both sides of the FRONT waist band and have stopped at the side seam, careful cut down the side. you don't need to include the welt. it will make cutting much easier if you don't. roughly estimate how far down you want to cut. I cut right below the butt cheeks. that gave me wiggle room to square up later.

there you have it. a rough cut garden apron from a old pair of jeans! but wait! I like to even up the bottom and round off the edge! see that little hump at the bottom near the middle on the welt?. I will be trimming that up so it lays flat.

place the side together and pin thru the layers to stabilize. place your ruler at the bottom and roughly estimate where you need to trim up. using your rotary cutter to clean up and even up the edge.

see that pincushion? I made that from a mason jar lid. makes a great template curve. I placed the pincushion on the corner and used a chalk pencil to trace a curvy corner and cut on the line.

TADAAAAAaaa!! a quick and easy apron made from your old jeans! I still had to do some light trimming along the bottom to even things but I really like the results. If you don't like the plainness of the apron, use your crafty mind and bling it up! Since I will be using mine in the kitchen and I am a ric rac whore with plenty in my stash I will be dressing it up! the belt loops are optional to keep attached. I like hanging a towel off my hip to dry my hands while I cook so mine are staying. redneck it! take a small hand towel, use a large safety pin and pin in the corner and attached to the loop. ya got a short towel that will not slip off!

I hope yall enjoyed this quick and easy tutorial. let me know how yours came out!
