Auntie Em! Auntie Em!

hiyall,
Rough night here in southeast Virginia last night. We had 2 tornados touched down about 5 miles west of here. This is southeast Va, we NEVER have tornados! Hurricanes from hell, yes, tornados? NO! It did alot of damage to homes, businesses and schools. my house and son's house are ok. We have alot of down trees everywhere, but nothing major. West of us however, in Suffolk and Driver.....that is a whole other story. Son's ex girlfriends medical office where she works part time is completely gone. There is a truck in the door way. The nieghborhood behind Obici Hospital got some major damage. My ex-manfriend lives there with his new wife. I havent been able to get a hold of him, but Im sure he is ok. He lives in the very back of the nieghborhood by the water. Most of the damage was done in the front of the nieghborhood. Judging from the news cast, you thought we lived in Oklahoma and tornado alley. In Driver Va, which is a very tiny tiny little township in the middle of Suffolk has some major damage. there are about a doz businesses and all were severely damaged. One was a antique store owned by my LQS auntie. In the news they showed the damage to the shop. You saw the front of the store intact but the roof and side walls are gone. yet......on the first floor, there was a table with a chrystal water pitcher untouched. we are thankful that there were no deaths and that buildings and lives can be repaired in time. thanks for letting me chit chat about this.

Hobo Bag finished!

hiyall, finally got my hobo bag finished! I used a piece of tapestry fabric I had in my stash and line it with a piece of neutral civil war repro. I added 2 inside pockets, one of which I made with a extra little pocket to hold a pen. the metal rings I found at my local home improvement store <>. They were alot cheaper than the fabric store and I didnt have to waste any gas! I have started to use magnetic closures in my purses. I LIKE them!! you can 3 sets for 1.49 at joanns. very quick to install and very secure.
Hobo Bag Instructions here the link to download the pattern and instructions. This bag makes a great inprompt diaper bag too! Enjoy!

Indian Hawthorne anyone?

hiyall,

a quick hit and run post tonight. I have been reading alot blogs and this time of year many have pics of their flowers in their yard. well, here is mine! I planted a row of Indian Hawthorne in front of my house a short while after I had moved in. Over the years they have bloomed profusely. I thought I would share a pretty pic with you while the flowers are in full bloom. When I was taking this pic, I pulled on a viney thing to clear a path to take a pic. Out pops a baby bun-bun! I was so surprized I didnt get a picture, even though the camera was right in my hand! anyhow, this is the pink princess variety of the Indian Hathorne. This is a great flowering shrub. very low maintence and drought tollerant. I highly recommend it for the lazy gardner. enjoy!

I am loving making purses

hiyall,

As my title states, I am loving making purses out of fabric. I picked up a pattern at the mid atlantic quilt show in feb and I finally got it done. I really like this purse! lots of room and I added an extra pocket on the inside. This pattern is called 'The two hour tulip purse' . It is designed by Janice Pope of Raliegh NC. Believe me, it does take only 2 hours to make it! each 'tulip petal' (there are 4 of them) measures 7 in wide and when the purse is sitting on a table, 7 in tall. 2 of the petals fold in on the sides to create a nice closure. The only thing I would change about it, would be I will used timtex instead of reg quilt batting. It will make the walls of the purse firmer with out making it too stiff. that or use heat bond lite between the batting and the lining to firm the walls up a bit. I did put a card board square covered in matching fabric in the bottom of the purse to give the bottom a sturdier base. I will diffinately make another one!

I was looking through the ads one sunday and found a vera wang purse that I really like. I am working on my own knock off. As soon as I get it done I will post on it. Til next time,
